Accommodation is offered in one of five houses, for 8-13 persons each.
• The houses have single or double bedrooms, bathrooms, a communal kitchenette and television room.
• Residential care includes water and electricity and the provision of 3 balanced meals per day, coffee, tea, cool drink as well as fresh fruit. Houses are supplied with basic furniture and appliances. Maintenance is done as and when needed. Residents are responsible to supply their own beds, linen and furniture for the room as per contractual agreement.
• YANA is licensed at the Department of Health and Social Development, Gauteng. All residential standards are met according to their prescriptions and guidelines and regular inspections are done by them.
• Applicants undergo a selection process according to certain criteria before being admitted. This is done via an interview scheduled by the social worker with the applicant and his/her family member/s upon applying for residency. The applicant may be required to provide evaluations and reports.
• All new residents are admitted to a probation period of 3 months, which may be extended if there are doubts about the person’s adjustment.
• Referrals are made if YANA is not able to help the applicant.
• The group home setup enables the residents to function with-in a therapeutic community that accepts and understands them and their illness and this is very productive as part of their therapy.
